This resource is maintained by Statistics Canada, and it contains an enormous amount of data that has been generated through the Canadian census.  These statistics can be used to graph information and create tables to observe different trends with data.  This E-Stat is another information database that St. James-Assiniboia School Division subscribes to for teacher and student use.
Provinces & Territories.png


The Government of Canada maintains this website which contains links to pages dedicated to each of Canada's provinces and territories.  For students who are researching classroom projects, this website will help to answer many of their questions.
Brainpop Social Studies.png


This website has dozens of fantastic animated videos to help students understand many different aspects of history and  geography.  All of the videos are animated, under five minutes in length and feature a multiple choice quiz to assess student understanding of the topics addressed.  Only some of the videos can be accessed without a username, but you with an e-mail address, you can register for a free trial account which gives you unlimited access to all of the videos contained in this website.  These videos fit very well with our provincial curricular outcomes.
World Book Kids.png


The online version of the World Book Encyclopedia has a great interface that students will love.  Many of the buttons 'speak' to students, so even young children will find this resource easy to use.  The St. James-Assiniboia School Division subscribes to this quality information database.
History Channel.png


The History Channel offers many interesting and educational documentaries for free in streaming video format.  There is also a 'Classroom' section of this website that offer suggestions for incorporating multimedia content into your teaching practices.  Small grants are offered for educators who contribute ideas to the History Channel classroom...
Media Awareness Network.png


This website offers a wide range of online safety interactive activities for students.  This is a great resource to share with parents as these activities can be used to reinforce concepts that are taught in the classroom.

While many adults rely on Google Maps to provide directions from one place to another, this resource is great for helping students to see how their community fits into the larger global community.
