Literacy with ICT
Technology as a 21st Century Teaching Tool
With the rapid developments in the world of technology, we now live in a world where many children possess far-stronger technology skills than their parents. Technology has dramatically increased both our access to information and the amount of information that we have available. Emerging technologies are forcing us to consider how we teach students, what we teach our students and how our students learn in the 21st Century.
While we often worry that our kids are opting to tune us out and plug-in to different forms of technology, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that technology is changing the way that we communicate with others. Whether through cell-phones or e-mails, text-messages or Facebook accounts, instant messaging or video conferencing, our kids are growing up in a very different world than we did. As educators, we must find a way to tap into some of these communication tools so that we can teach our students in a language that they can understand. All of the videos contained on this page speak to different aspects of the need to harness emerging technologies as a means of utilizing technology as a teaching tool in the 21st Century.
