Indigenous Education

St. James – Assiniboia School Division acknowledges that all of its buildings and surrounding school community sits on Treaty One land, the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Ininiw and Dakota peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. It is also the current home of the Dene and Oji-Cree peoples. The land connects us all.

The Indigenous Education Team works with both school division administration and school-based teams, providing support in the areas of curriculum and instruction. They provide professional development to all divisional staff, and work in collaboration with school-based teams, divisional support teams, as well as local community groups, to achieve three main goals:

a) increase the literacy and numeracy achievement of Indigenous students in the division
b) increase the graduation rates of Indigenous students in the division
c) increase the knowledge of both staff and students around Indigenous history and perspectives
